Two Article reviews

ehttp://www.nea.org/newsreleases/2008/nr080204a.html
This article is from an NEA publication about President Bush's proposed budget for education. His budget proposals came out just a few days after his State of the Union address. In his address he talks wonderfully of the good NCLB is doing and how great our educational system is and then he puts out a budget with major cuts to major programs. One of the programs being Career and Tech Ed. so I am not a supportor of this budget.

This article is in support of CTE, which ties in with the first article. It does not have to do with computer technology. But the article points out the importance of CTE and preparing students for the future.

I found this web quest to be attractive and engaging. It has the students go to 3 different cafe web sites and research their menu and pricing information. The students then make their own menus and calculate the prices. We do not have a pro start program at our school but I could adapt this web quest to use in my classes.

Post for Jan. 19

I have been working hard on my web site. I think I know how to do the basics, still have things I need to fix but we seem to have the time to do that, which is nice. It is great to not be overly pressured so can play around with the site development. I feel I am learning alot of information about technology, that will be useful.

Blog for Dec. 21, Merry Christmas

Best Wishes for a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

One of my favorite Christmas memories is from last year. My daughter and I went on a cruise (our first) to Mexico for a week. We swam with the doplins, went snorkeling, and saw the sights. The onboard experience was delightful too. We were pampered for a week which is very unusual for us. I hope to do a cruise again, maybe in August to Alaska, when this Master's work and program is complete.

blog for Dec. 14

rI found interesting the news report about the FDA not being able to do their job of being sure our food supply is safe. The FDA needs more money to do the job well. With all the recalls and reports of unsafe foods and products, it seems important that the agency in charge should have what it needs to do the job. There is a fraction against giving the FDA any more money. With a big government agency there will be waste, but a safe food supply is very important. Educational Issue

This is a long but interesting article on the NEA's view on NCLB and standardized testing. The beginning and end of the article are the most concise. It goes in to rating a school on the test scores from one day of testing. It suggests other steps to be taken before sanctions take over. It mentions a lot of problems with funding, training, fairness, etc. It was worth reading...http://www.nesinc.com/PDFs/2005_15Loucks.pdf
